Charming Quotes to Read If You're Struggling as a Writer

A little birdie told me you were searching for some writing motivation. No? Oh...Well, maybe someone is, so I have no other choice but to continue and obey that questionable birdie's advice. Let's dive right in, shall we?

To those who truly do need encouraged in their writing journey: please print this blog post. I mean it. Take it, cut out the quotes, and attach it to wherever you will see them daily. There is no getting away from the fact that many times writing feels like a thankless profession. You work hard to perfect your craft, your style, your voice, and still it feels like you're talking into an endless vacuum of space. This means that sometimes you have to remind yourself why you write at all. Is it simply for others, or did it stem from a love of writing? Do you struggle if you don't write? Is there just something inside you that wants to tell a story or impact others through the written word? Explore that sense of "WHY" for yourself.

It helps remembering that other writers feel the exact same ways, famous authors included. These accomplished writers oftentimes put words to the experiences that we feel as we pursue our first love of writing...They also remind us to continue to do so.

“You have to write the book that wants to be written. And if the book will be too difficult for grown-ups, then you write it for children.” Madeleine L'Engle

“There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you.” Beatrix Potter

“Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.” Anton Chekhov

“Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.” Louis L'Amour

“You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.” Jack London

“Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.” Pablo Picasso

“Easy reading is damn hard writing.” Nathaniel Hawthorne

“I love writing. I love the swirl and swing of words as they tangle with human emotions.” James Michener

"Substitute 'damn' every time you're inclined to write 'very;' your editor will delete it and the writing will be just as it should be." Mark Twain

“Fiction is art and art is the triumph over chaos… to celebrate a world that lies spread out around us like a bewildering and stupendous dream.” John Cheever

I hope this post reminded you at least a little why you pour your heart into writing, or why you WANT to do so more in the future.

I've enjoyed doing this much more these last few months and hope you will continue to "stay in the loop"!
